FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR
Each year the American Legion Blanchard Post 1040 honors a firefighter of the year at their March business meeting. Each of the fire departments in the Town of Bethlehem has an opportunity to present a candidate for this award. We are proad of the Elsmere firefighters that been honored over the years. KENNETH E. MCNARY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Kenneth E. Mc Nary Achievement Award was initiated in February 1990 following the celebration and recognition of Ken McNary's extraordinary achievement of 60 years of active service to the Elsmere Fire Co. A, Inc. Ken passed away on July 9, 2006 after serving a spectacular 73 years of active service with the Elsmere Fire Company.
The award was developed by the Recruitment and Retention Committee comprised of six members representing various areas of responsibility within the Fire District and Fire Company. The committee consisted of Chairman and President Stephen R. Wright, Assistant Chief Edward J. Costigan, Commissioner James B. Hogan, Commissioner Wayne R. Johnson, Lieutenant Peter G. Merrill, and Lieutenant Richard C. Watt. This committee established the criteria and level of dedication and accomplishment which should be considered in the determination of future award recipients.
In general, the award is presented annually to an individual whose performance best exemplifies the characteristics of Dedication, Professionalism, and Concern for fellow firefighters as well as maintaining the spirit of the Elsmere Fire Company by exhibiting a high level of commitment to the Fire Company and Community.

CHIEF KEVIN M. SHEA FIREMATIC PARTICIPATION AWARD
This award is named in honor of Chief Kevin M. Shea who suffered a Line of Duty Death in January 2004 .

BETHLEHEM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AWARDS
Robert C. Johnson is named 1999 Citizen of the Year

Each year the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce honors residents and businesses in Bethlehem for their voluntary service to the community. This year Elsmere Firefighter Robert Johnson was honored. Bob who recently completed a term as a member of the Bethlehem Town Board, has been named Citizen of the Year by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. Bob is currently the fire company Treasurer and has been a member since 1994. Bob also serves on numerous committees and organizations in Bethlehem including the Feestelijk committee. Also being honored as Business Persons of the Year are Jill Ayers and Andy Michne of SitesWaves Internet Services. They have provided the fire company with considerable assistance on their web site, http://www.elsmerefire.org/ over past years.
