Elsmere Firehouse Renovation (2001-2002)

Saturday, November 01, 2003

In 2001, the Elsmere Fire District undertook a Renovation and Reconstruction project to improve and enlarge its facility at 15 West Poplar Drive.

The project took under two years to complete. As a result of this project, the Fire District was able to replace its aging infrastructure (heating, plumbing, electrical plant) and fully protect the building with sprinklers and an automatic alarm system. The project also allowed the Fire District to improve safety for its volunteer firefighters by moving the turnout gear away from the apparatus to reduce the likelihood of injury.

In 2000, the voters of the Elsmere Fire District approved a $2 million bond issue to fund this project. The project was completed at a cost of $1.7 million. Without any substantial change to the existing building’s footprint, the Fire District increased its useable space by 38.5%.
